How to upload files to TalkBank via FTP
Download an FTP program
- In order to upload files to us via FTP, you first need an FTP program.
- Within Unix, you can type "sftp transfer@mail.talkbank.org" and then use "mercury" as the password.
- For an easier user interface, we recommend using FileZilla, which you can download from here
- Another good FTP program for Mac is Cyberduck
- The directions below will be for FileZilla.
Connect to FTP server
- Once installed, open FileZilla. At the top are four fields: Host, Username, Password, and Port. Enter the following information into these fields:
- Host: mail.talkbank.org
- Username: transfer
- Password: mercury
- Port: 22
- After you have entered the above information, press Quickconnect.
- Directly below these fields will display information about FileZilla connecting to the software. Once it is connected it will it will issue several messages and the last will be "Status: Directory listing successful", and the right hand side of the FileZilla window will now show the files and folders on mail.talkbank.org.
Upload your files
- In the section of the window showing the files and folders on mail.talkbank.org, double click "Downloads" to open the Downloads folder. This area will now show you the files and folders within Downloads.
- You may place your files directly in the Downloads folder, or create a new folder to put them in. To make a new folder, right click inside the Downloads folder and select Create Directory. Filezilla defaults to naming your new directory "New directory", but you can delete this part and type in your own name (e.g., the name of your lab). If you created a new folder, double click the new folder you created, and then you may place any files in here.
- To upload the files to mail.talkbank.org, just click and drag them over to FileZilla.
