CLAN's Walker Controller facility (under the Windows menu) can be configured to work with an X-keys Foot Pedal from P. I. Engineering.
You can order the pedal and software from here.
If you are using Macintosh, you need to follow these steps:
- Download and open disk image file ikey.for.xkeys.dmg. After it opens copy "iKey for X-keys" folder to your Applications folder.
- Download and unzip the settings. This will create folder "iKey for X-keys". This folder has the same name as the one in step 1, but it has different content.
- Copy settings folder "iKey for X-keys" into "/Users/<UserName>/Library/Preferences" folder. Remember to replace "<UserName>" with your actual user login name on you computer.
- You should add the iKey program, located in "/Applications/iKey for X-keys" folder to your Login items, so that it runs all the time.
- Plug-in the X-keys foot pedal.
If you are using Windows, you need to follow these steps:
- Download, unzip, and run the installer. It will create a folder called
"C:\Program Files\PI Engineering\MacroWorks II\". Within that folder, there is a preference folder "XKeyDevices\Vid05F3Pid0268"and an application "MacroWorks.exe".
- Download and unzip the script files.
- Copy the two script files to the "Vid05F3Pid0268" folder and run the application "MacroWorks.exe".
- You should add the MacroWorks.exe program to your Startup Items, so that it is running all the time.
- Plug-in the X-keys foot pedal.
To use the foot pedal on either Macintosh or Windows:
- With your CHAT file open, go to the CLAN menu, click on "Windows", and select "Walker Controller".
- In the Walker Controller box, click on "Open Media". Find and select your media file.
- We recommend starting with a "Walk length" of 4000 msec, a Loop number of 1, Backspace of 0, Walk pause length of 0, and Playback speed of 100%. All of these settings can be changed at any time.
- The big central section of the foot pedal functions as F6 (play, stop playing); the elevated vertical piece on the left of the foot pedal functions as F7 (rewind); and the elevated piece on the right functions as F9 (fast forward).
- For a more detailed description of Walker Controller, see Section 5.c. in the training manual or watch the appropriate section of the training video in Module 5 (http://www.talkbank.org/training/).
